Once you're done with this navigate to the steam folder (normally Program Files(x86) -> Steam), then open up the config folder and open the config.vdf file with a text editor, preferably not Notepad, you could use WordPad if you don't have anything better (Notepad might put everything on one line or smth messy like that, wordpad will at least organize it a bit nicer) now the bit you're looking for is (at least for me) all the way at the bottom if not there just use ctr+F (find command) and type in "SDL_Gamepadbind". Bind the keys (you'll probably need to leave the 'guide' button emtpy since most controllers don't have it don't worry about it tho you don't need to bind it). Steam should now detect your controller and let you bind all the keys.

Steam will now open up into fullscreen mode once you do that click the little settings cog in the top right corner then select Controller. Ok first big picture mode - when you open up your steam look at top left you got Steam, View, Friends, Games and Help. Could the needed file/data be in a different location or file even? I did see a file in a folder called 'app_204450' located in 'steam/controller_config', and the data in it is similar to the example, but it's not the same thing and it doesn't say the name of the controller or anything like that. All I can tell from it is that it holds all kinds of data for different games since I see their titles in there. The thing is, I can't even find the term "SDL" if I search for it, so the data doesn't seem to be there. Also, I'm using a proper font that would usually line up any kind of configuration-file. It almost looks like a DLL-file's code, except with actual readable words. But I assume it simply sees the one controller I'm using, cause it does work with Big Picture.Īnyway, on another step, when I open the config-file into Notepad, I can barely find any structure in the code. All I can do is go into the settings and the "controller"-menu, in which all it shows is one controller and I can either press "select" and "accept" or something like that. OK, well I have seen that page before, and I already didn't understand what they meant by "configure your controller in Big Picture".
